We are getting this error code message while backing up a server through client agent. I also tried to install the SQL backup agent on this same server and I get an error message saying that no SQL server exist. Open file agent also has not solved the problem.

AW0004 Failed to open file <C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\CleanData_Log.LDF>. RC=32, The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

The warning is appearing because the backup cannot open the log file. OFA will only work if the file is not being contantly updated. In the case of a log file, if anybody is using the database there is a good chance that the activity in the file is not stopped long enough for OFA to allow it to be backed up. I assume that you are doing a file system backup of C:.

When the SQL agent is installed on the same machine the client agent will contact the SQL agent and get a list of all the data and log files. This list is added as a "do not backup" filter. However, you need to make sure that the SQL agent is configured properly.

During the SQL agent installation if you specify SQL authentication, then you must supply sa with a password and SQL Server must be able to accept SQL logins. If you select NT authentication, then the username you use to backup the machine must be have System Operator server role in SQL so that it can get the file list.
