We have a livelink installation with a lot of folders with 'defaultgroup' as owner group.

Is there an easy way to replace this group with another group?

If the folders are one beneath the other it can be done from the GUI,the multi permissions page.
2)You can read the objectid's form a csv file and create a lapi command to replace it.There is a sample java app at communities.opentext.com which reads a list and creates the user thru lapi.Jut cahnge the call suitably.
3)If you have ObjImporter or Bulkloader ,bot has ways to apply/revoke ACL's,but they have to be scripted nevertheless.

Even if it is owned by "Default Group" what problem is being posed.Wouldnot the assigned ACL give what you want. The reason I know default group should not be used is because OT uses it as catch all bucket for any group that is being deleted and is used by objects. Is that the reason or something else.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

I can try the multi permissions page, forgot about that.

I don't want to use the default group because it's as you stated, the group of users with deleted department group, but also the group for new active directory users when group mapping fails.

I think it's 'cleaner' not to use it.
