Easy Formula...IF, then, else

Hello,
I need help with a very easy formula. I need to know the correct syntax for a if (with 2 conditions), then, else

ex:
If (Field1 = x and Field2 = y) then "OK" else "Error"

For some reason, the formula I enter is not working correctly. Thanks and my apologies for the easy question.
