Hi Guys,

I am using easy cd creator delux edition, I had lost password for my NT Server and had to re-install the NT Server now easy cd creator is not working properly. Trid direct cd same thing that does not work at all as well.

I have lost the drivers of the cd writer is it because of that?

Thanks

Saqi

If the CD-RW drive does not show up in the O/S, then its drivers have to be installed.
Did you check the drive manuf's site for them?

Ski,

I can access data cds from that drive. for example I have backed up word documents in the past on a cd and opened them from CD-rw but it just does let me create more cds. At present I have got 300mb on one partition which I would like to copy onto cd and delete from my server. It goes for about few minutes in easy cd creator and then bombs out. Any thoughts?

Uninstall and reinstall Easy CD Creator, and see if that works.

Hang on... wait a sec. Just becuase it is available on my computer and can do data transfer (from CD), doesnt mean it has the correct drivers installed.

Most CDR/RW drives can do data transfer with using a universal CD-rom driver (for instance, you can still use a CD-R/RW in DOS, as a CDROM). It is very likely that the re-install that you have lost the drivers. If you have a disk with them on re-install them, if not go to the website of the manufacturer of the drive and get the drivers from there. My personal view is this should solve the problem.

Could reinstalling NT have lost some elements of the patches that Easy CD needed? For version 5, I think there are now two large downloads needed to update it. I suppose they could have been screwed up (to use a technical term)!

If a CD-RW drive can read CD's in Windows without having to install any drivers from a supplied CD or floppy, or d/l them from the manuf's site, then the 'protective mode' drivers that Windows installs are the correct ones.

If a CD-RW drive can read CD's in DOS, then that means the 'real mode' drivers it's using are the correct ones.

If a CD-RW drive cannot burn CD's but can read CD's in Windows, then the burning software is the problem(not installed, corrupt, not compatible with the O/S, etc).

Hi Saqi,
One of the Service packs for Nt4 was to fix a bug when using easy c.d creator. But I cant remember the problems user experienced before the SP patch, but it was definitly because of easy c.d creator. My sugestion is to download or request a copy of SP 6a and reinstall easy c.d creator.
Sorry cant give more info.

Personally i have had ALOT of trouble with CD Creator after just such a problem as you described. what i ended up doing was re dling the drivers for my cd/r/w and loading them again (sony 16X) and tried again . no luck then i uninstalled the software and installed just plain version 4. with no patches or dls. worked great when i patched it back up it bombed again. so i removed it again and reloaded just version 4 it works like a charm.

Saqi,

Go ahead and uninstall, reboot, reinstall, and then apply all patches from Roxio's web site. The problem is more than likely a registry entry that's missing or corrupted.

plank,

Internal CDROM drives are not like other peripherals (printers, mice, Zip drives, etc). You never have to install drivers for them. They're built into the firmware, which is located directly on the CDROM drive. When Windows detects it for the first time, the drivers are automatically loaded. This shouldn't be an issue about having the right drivers installed. ~cdogg
