I am new to after effects and am catching fairly well but I am having a very simple problem. I want to put a lightning effect (or any effect for that matter) on a scene but only for a couple of seconds(the scene is a minute or two long). after those couple of seconds I need the lightning to be gone and not show up. How can I make effects disappear visually and let the scene keep on going and later apply the effect again on the same scene?
Thanks
Ray

Hi Ray, What I mostly do, is create a new Solid, Apply the Effect that you want to that, and then turn on the adjustment layer. (thats the circel, half black half white).
Now you can turn the opacity on or off of that solid. (transform > opacity)

Good luck
Jef
