Eastern europe characters

I use Crystal report to export to PDF. All is great, but some special Eastern Europe characters are wrong in PDF.
The first idea to correct the problem was to embed the fonts, but it is not a perfect solution (big files, slow).
Then I discovered, that changing some registry entries in Win2000 is posible to set the Eastern Europe character set as default for PDF.
Does someone know what I have to change in the registry?
