Good afternoon all,

Here I am once again and I may have a question that may stump some people.

Is there an easier way to dissect the Sta-hista-search report?

Looking at a report is tedious, especially if one is trying to decipher what happened in the middle of a system failure or reboot.

I heard that there might be an application or program that can assist in deciphering the history search to find out key failures.
I don't know if this is true.

It will really help me, especially if I don't have to install anything onto the Hi-Path itself, if there was some way or program that would help me in deciphering the history report.

Also, what other report will give me information for a particular time frame that would show why a system would go down or reboot on it's own?

I really can use some help with this one.
By the way, I have experience in coding (Unix, Linux, C++, etc.) so looking at a history report does not scare me, I just need something that would point out certain areas of the report during a time of need.

Thank you all once again and have a blessed evening.

Eric

There was a tool which itemised it, applied a few colours, I tried it at a few times and uninstalled it. It made it look pretty but if you didn't know what a proc int stack was already, it didn't help. It wasn't a substitute for experience. Restarts aren't too difficult to diagnose with a full text sta-hista, but you need to know what you're looking at. No quick way to get there.

There are several tools for HISTA analysis/decoding and more(COOL,Endloss,TraceX,Xtracer).
Most useful for me are : "Message Doctor" and "HistView".
You may use also Trace tool under Assistant.

For reload/restart/reboot issues:
DIS-SIGNL:SYSTEM;

To check if an AMO command enetered by an user could cause the restart:
sta-logbk:..... ; with time interval from SIGNL

Autotrace :
EXEC-TRACS:UNIT=BPA; .... or BPB
display,autotr;
*display,autotr;
OUTPUT OF AUTO TRACER FILE
+------------+-----------+-----------+---------------------+------+
| BLOCK | CURNO-BEG | CURNO-END | TIME | INFO |
+------------+-----------+-----------+---------------------+------+
| 1 | 1824 | 2926 | 2009-04-30 23:01:12 | |
| 2 | 39168 | 40269 | 2009-09-08 08:59:02 | |
| 3 | 60121 | 61224 | 2010-10-20 09:20:52 | | .... also time from SIGNL
| 4-20 | 0 | 0 | 0000-00-00 00:00:00 | EMPTY|
+------------+-----------+-----------+---------------------+------+
INPUT THE DESIRED BLOCK NUMBER
*3
*COPY,AUTOTR,:diag:TRACE/block3;
*dn,60121-61224,,autotr;

The output can be decoded with Message Doctor tool:

Starting V6, Portal logs could help:
The logs can be downloaded from Portal under Maintenance -> Logs -> Export.
Then check "crash-dump" checkbox and uncheck
"Include only the current log files", as it is shown in the printscreen. Then press "Export" and wait as long as needed.
(there is a message and counter running).
Do not press the export button more than once, as this might cause overload to the system and a reload of the whole HiPath 4000.

There is also a document called "ALFE Openscape V7.pdf" that explains what all the error codes mean and a little of how to interpret them. They are sorted by number. I find it pretty useful, and with time it gets pretty easy to scan a HISTA log and know what parts are relevant and what things you can ignore.
