hi, i have a problem to crate a proper earned value report. how to include the values...is just get two dots on the report or then the planned value and actual value is ok, byt earned value just a straight line?!?

In order for earned value to work properly, you must have costed resources assigned to tasks, a baseline, and tracking. My guess is one or several of those is missing in your project file.

hi
i have them all, because i get the bcwp, cpi and spi figures based on a date when i'm on the gantt view?!?

The Earned Value Over Time is based on the Assignment cube data. do you have resources assigned or have you just entered costs?

i have tasks, amount of work and then resources named for the task. each resource has a cost per day value. when i'm fig. on the tracking gantt view i get all correct values for bsws, acwp and bcwp, as well as cpi and spi. but...visual report does not give the proper result.

what do you mean by assignment cube data?

hi, now i know what is the problem. when i use physical % complete as the earned value method (as i usually) then the visual report does not work. BUT when the method % complete is used, also the report is working.

Ah yes, you need to pick a consistent method for calculation and I believe the Earned Value over time report calls to % complete and you need to be using % complete.

in my projects i need to use the physical % complete, because usually the if half of the work is used it does not necessarily mean that half of the task is ready...have to make the earned value graphichs manualluy.

thank you for your interest in my problems

I understand. You can likely quickly produce what you need through a copy/paste into Excel.

Actually, there is a setting within Microsoft Project where you can tell it to calculate Earned Value based upon Physical % Complete. I am looking in Project 2010 and it is under >File, >Options, >Advanced. I'm not sure this impacts the data that gets pulled into that Earned Value Over Time Report. Let us know!!

Hi jbalck34,

Yes, he is seeing earned value calculate using Physical % complete - the issue is the Visual Report isn't pulling the correct data. He is seeing the data in the Earned Value table - so his settings are correct.
