Early PC voicemail

I have a site with an early version of the PC voicemail (I think release 1). I changed out their ACS recently (power Surge) reusing the same voicemail card. They are stating that they must now wait until the voicemail lady stops talking to enter selections (mailbox, password, *3, ect). I thought this was always the case, but they insist this is new since we changed the ACS. Any thoughts or confirmation from Partner Voice MAil Release 1 users?

This is the norm for Release 1 of the PC Messaging Card. It's annoying, and corrected in the R2 version.
