E8604 Failed to start backup 1

[StackEngineer]

We have Arcserve 2000 backing up Exchange 5.5 over the network. The backup job fails with the following error:

"E8604 Failed to start backup. DBNAME=dbaxchg2 EC=Backup Agent Error (356) Try the backup later. Another backup is running on the server."

There are no other backup jobs running at the same time, all the Exchange services are running and the Exchange backup agent is working fine. The backup job has been working for months before this problem.

I have checked CA's website but the only fix refers to a registry entry in Arcserve 6.6x and cannot be applied to Arcserve 2000.

Does anyone know of a solution?

HI,

On the Exchange server... open regedt32

HKLM\Software\CA\ARcserveIT\DSagent\currentversion\agent\dbaxchg2
change value of "Inbackup" to 0

recycle the backup agent RPCS server service...

run the backup again..
