I'm testing out doing a win2k domain controller and exchange 2k restore from a remote server, and am stumped at the DC restore. Basically, I have a lab network setup with a Backup server with Arcserve 2K, a win2k dc, and a exchange 2k server. This network is isolated from my production network, and I am trying to restore backups taken from that network. All three computers in the lab can talk to one another, log on to the domain, and have the same computer names as their corresponding servers in the production network. Even the domain name is the same. I have followed Arcserve's instructions on restoring the DC as far as installing the client agent, booting into Directory Services Restore Mode, etc. but when attempting to restore the System State Session to the remote DC, I get E8531 - Client Agent refused the restore (or something like that). What I don't understand is what accounts I am supposed to use to complete this. I mean if Active Directory isn't running how does the remote Backup Server get authenticated to do the restore? Can I do this with local accounts?
