E8522 on resuming backup operation

Hi,

I got this problem since a few weeks:
E8522 Failed to receive data from the client agent. (EC=10054) every time the library resumes backup (after inserting a blank tape).
Two of my 4 servers are affected.

Servers:
1.
Compaq DL360 G2
MSL5026 (doubble) @ firmware 4.6
AS2k SP4 on Win2k SP2
Library fix installed
Job fix installed

2.
Compaq Proliant1600
Compaq TL881
Same software

Clients:
1.
Client Agents v 7.0 build 1050 on Cluster NT4 (enterprise) SP6a

2.
Same agents on Win2k server SP3

Hi,

The E8522 error is common when resuming the backup after additional media is instered. The client agent is set to timeout after 5 minutes of non activity, so if you insert the tape after this period, you will receive this message and the backup will fail.

You can increase the timeout period by modifying the below registry entries-
HKLM / SOFTWARE / COMPUTERASSOCIATES / ARCSERVEIT / CLIENTAGENT / PARAMETERS / ReconnectionTimeout = 1200 SendTimeOut = 2400 ReceiveTimeOut = 2400
This will set the timeouts to 20 and 40 minutes respectively.

This is only a work around, however. To resolve the problem, you should ensure there is enough media capacity on hand to the library to complete the backup.

Is there a limit for that value?
Can I set it to 1 or 2 days? (In seconds for sûre)

I'm not aware of an upper limit that can be entered for those values. I have managed to force the agent to wait 6 hours by using a value of 21600. However, bear in mind, that during this time, the agent will be actively using server resources and regularly monitoring the network listening for the reconnection request from the arcserve server.
