E5110 database error 1

We are running Arcserve 11.0 Build 2670 and get the following after backup completes. I always have a few .cat files in the arcserve temp directory and when I try to run mergecat it just hangs.

Information 05/30/2004 08:11:22 AM Message Engine is Stopped.
Information 05/29/2004 09:42:10 PM Database Engine is Stopped.
Information 05/29/2004 09:42:10 PM Database Engine is shutting down.
E5110 05/29/2004 09:42:10 PM The database is no longer available.
Information 05/29/2004 09:39:52 PM [CAT] Failed to login to BrightStor ARCserve Backup database.(EC=-2005)
Information 05/29/2004 09:35:55 PM 132 12 [CAT] M-BECK-FRI- 5/28/04 [ID:BA72,SESSION:12] is merged.(files=15)

Chances are the problem is database corruption. See the vldmutil doc in the ARCserve directory and the faqs in this forum.
