Hi All,

We are currently experiencing the error above for our backups. We are using ArcServe 2000 on a Win2k Server. The Tape drive is an IBM Ultrium TD1.

Now what we've got setup is for 2 separate job running at different times (one at 9:30pm and another at 5am the next day). The first job is set to overwrite any media in the tape drive while the second job is set to append media and eject media when finish. So its 2 separate jobs going into 1 tape.

The first job completes successfully but when the second one starts it gets the error above in the log - "E3855 Unable to position media (EC= Controller Failure or Hardware Error)"

Any ideas please? I'm new with backups so please be kind :)

Thanks.

Patch up ARCserve and disable the OS level drivers for the tape drives:

IIRC there was an issue in earlier versions which caused the session header to be accidentally overwritten +/- 1 block (I can't remember off the top of my head)

Thanks for the help. I'll try your suggestions and let you know how it goes.

Cheers.
