I'm having a perplexing problem. I have a job which runs flawlessly to backup our two Exchange servers pretty much all the time. But at least once every two weeks, the Exchange Agent backups of those servers will fail with the following error...

E3501 - Unable to connect to network drive. (DRIVE=\\ServerA\ADMIN$, EC=BAD NETPATH)
E3501 - Unable to connect to network drive. (DRIVE=\\ServerB\ADMIN$, EC=BAD NETPATH)

where ServerA and ServerB are the two Exchange servers in question. Its never just one of the servers that fails. If this error shows up, its always for both of them. The job hasn't been modified in eons. None of the admin or agent passwords ever change. It just works 90% of the time and the other 10% it gives me this error.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Go to the Exchange servers in question, go to the C:\winnt folder. This should be shared as ADMIN$. This is the default share name when the OS is installed. Someone probably removed this sharename.

Im seeing this same error. Except last night we installed PIX firewall between sites. Does anyone know the port that needs to be opened in order to backup over a PIX firewall?
