I don't know what happened, I was working on the console and it froze up. The mouse moves but nothing can be clicked on. Is there any keystroke combination I Can use to free it up? I don't want to kill the entire session because I have, or had a process running that I need to let finish! What can I do if anything? Thanks guys!
Steve

Hi, I still haven't restarted this system but I am noticing it is slow now since the console crashed. Could this be the cause?

from top
26038 root 1 30 0 86M 79M run 92.8H 22.29% dtterm

I want to kill but what could the results be? I don't want to crash the entire system. Thanks!
Steve

I can only think of control right bracket
Control ]

or ~.

But yes 22% means the dtterm has lost it. Has this happened before or is this a one-off, do you have LOM/ALOM - light on mamagement (Sun-Fires or Netra systems)

what does ~. and Ctrl-] do? is that a new kind of smiley? haha...

No this hasn't happened before.... Yes we do have a couple netras... What do you suggest?

Thanks!
Steve

The smilies are old style methods of exiting a system, when using "tip" or annexing. So ignore. See "man tip"

As this is a one-off I wouldn't normally worry, hangs happen. More important, have you cleared the problem as yet or still at 22% CPU? I assume the job has long finished

My only thought about LOM was to temporary leave your console mode by issuing a #.
then at >
typing console to return again. Just an experiment to see if any reaction.

No I left well enough alone until I have the time to restart the system which I was assuming is the only way to clear it up.

Will any of these hot keys affect the operation of the server itself? I cannot afford to have anything crash on the server as it is our primary ERP system.
