E30 looses machid

Hi,

I have a E30 system with AIX 4.3.3.
AT certain point (reboot ?) the machid changed from the original 85000c4 to ffffffc4 ,and stays like this .

Removing the battery or "U5" chip did not help.

Any ideas ?
