system attendant service fails to start with error %%0

not the most helpful error message, anyone know what it means? what could be wrong? this service prevents most of the other exchange services from starting, so the server is useless.

when i try to remove exchange 2000 it tells me the domain does not exist or cannot be contacted, which is absurd because i can easily pull all the domain-related shares etc up on the machine.

any ideas?
thanks,
Wes

Sounds like a permissions issue. Check the service account that starts the services. Does it have the right permissions?

Would also check the domain info for the Exchange server too.

i set the logon account for all exchange services to be the domain admin account... still no dice... any other ideas? :-/

thanks,
Wes

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a DNS issue. If you try to replicate the AD you probably get RPC unavailable errors, correct? You need to make sure that you only have one entry for each server in Active Directory Sites and Services -> Sites -> Site name -> Servers -> NTDS Settings.

Once you can replicate, it will all be good.

yes replication seems to be messed up... maybe it's because I created the domain on a test machine, then joined our two beefy machines and made them DC's, then i demoted and uninstalled the original DC (test machine). the two remaining DCs don't seem to replicate correctly (getting errors in the event log)... any ideas what this installation method may have screwed up?

thanks,
Wes
