e2k sys management tools won't install on win2k pro

e2k up and running in the domain, no problems... installed sys management tools from cd onto another member server... also no problem...

however i can't install them onto my win2k pro workstation (SP1, win2k admin tools installed). I run setup from the cd but when I choose "custom" for install type it says it has an "unknown error" and that's that.

any ideas? I am an Exchange, Schema, and Domain admin, as is the Administrator account and I've tried it logged in as both...
