got the following error stating that the backup failed:

e000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.

this happens to a few folders that are on another machine, backed up using remote agent.

I am getting this error from time to time, but not every day.
quite infuriating.

I have read what the veritas kb states, but it passes the credentials test, and the remote agent is installed and running on the other machine.

Plus if it was the remote agent not running that was the issue you would think ALL folders on that machine would get this error, yet it only happens to a few. many of the folders are successfully backed up

what else do I need to look at?

I've encountered a similar issue, and it turned out to be Windows Automatic updates that rebooted the remote server at 3 AM.

Checking out the remote server's event log made this obvious.

well, I got the message again on about 20 folders that failed to be backed up from our file server via the remote agent.

about 80 folders were backed up, but those 20 failed.

no errors on the file server itself though.
it hasnt been rebooted, do not understand why the backup fails like this maybe once or twice a month.

I am rerunning the job now, and I guarantee it will finish this time.

here is the message I got below from veritas 11d:

V-79-57344-33932 - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.

It might be related to any network related issue during the backup. Examples:
[ul][li]Creating a ghost image somewhere on the network causing saturation on the switch[/li]
[li]A scheduled virus scan over the network causing saturation[/li]
[li]The domain controller restarting because of automatic updates, resulting in the Backup Exec service account credentials not being validated[/li][/ul]

Changing the backup job to log all detailed information might help you to find the problem.
