We have set up e-portfolio lite with a default username and password so the user doesn't need to enter one. We have been using it on our intranet this way for a couple of years. However, we are now looking for a way to add "security" to e-portfolio lite. Does anyone have any input or ideas how to do this? It is not in our budget to upgrade software at this time so, that is not an option. We thought of setting up groups in SQL and assigning users to those groups and having them log onto the database each time they want to run a report. the problem we are getting is whenever we enter a user name and password, it just flashes back to the log on screen and says enter username and password. We have also thought of trying to tie it back to NT to authenticate users. We are on Crystal version 9 and using e-portfolio lite on Windows 2000 server. Thanks in advance, Rob

There's a 3rd party tool that offers add-in security for "e-portfolio lite" on CR-10, but I can't remember the company name.

I think they were at the CDUGNA conference tradeshow in New Orleans. A link or info might be on the CDUGNA site...

For awhile, I was playing with the idea of intercepting the user logon and redirect the logon to a generic account. The user name would have been used for tracking by custom code, but CE would know the user as BUDGET. I quit because the usage statistics for these users turned out not to be important. There was also a concern that there may be a license violation since the BUDGET account is currently assigned a Named User License.

Licensing issues aside, I think you could intercept the logon data - or create your own form - and validate against the database. Valid users would then be logged on to your default account, which is what CE would manage. Presumably you would change the password on that account so that unsecured users cold not use it to log on.
