E Metrotel ucx50 outbound route using AT&T cooper pots lines

I have tried everything in this unit and I cannot get to dial out of the Ucx using my pots lines. I have built my outbound routes according to my needs, now I can dial everything except locally, it tells me your call cannot be completed as dial. Interesting thing is I put a 1 in front of it I will work. E metrotel tells me it's a telco issue, but I took my test set and put it directly on the pots lines and I don't get that message. What am I doing wrong or is my system corrupt.this should of been an easy install. 3 days later and we can't figure out the issue. Please help tired and frustrated.

Do you use Nortel IP or digital phones? If you do, check Dialplan Patterns (on the Nortel Settings page) - does one of the patterns happen to match the first several digits of the "locally" dialed number? If it does, the dialed digits would be incomplete (only the digits that match the pattern would be dialed).

To see what digits were actually dialed, you can take a peek at Support - System Log Files - asterisk/full. If you refresh the page after dialing the local number, you should see a line that contains "Dial(" - look at the second parameter. Does it contain all the local number digits? Is the call made over the correct trunk?
 
For simplification, I don't use the Dialplan Patterns (on the Nortel Settings page)but rely on the Dialplan Patterns of the Outbound Route
 
The purpose of Dial Patterns in the outbound route configuration is completely different from Dialplan Patterns under Nortel Settings.

The Dial Patterns in the outbound route determine which calls are routed via that specific route.

The Dialplan Patterns under Nortel settings determine if digits dialed by the user of a Nortel phone form a complete number and thus if dialing should be initiated without the need for the user to press the Call/pound key or waiting for the configured timeout.

If you have no dialplan patters under Nortel Settings, users of Nortel phones have to
a) press the Call soft key, or
b) press the # key, or
c) wait 4 seconds (by default)
after dialing all digits in order for the system to initiate dialing.
 
The dialplan pattern of the OP prevented him from calling out on his pots lines.
Without seeing his Nortel Dialplan pattern, OB Rt, and TRK configs we can only guess why the call failed thru the system but worked on the pots line itself.

It’s true the Nortel Dialplan Pattern can determine a complete number but the OB Rt and TRK can also. In either case when the user misdials or doesn’t dial a complete number they end up at the same place, some type of error message.

With almost everyone having a cell phone, they are used to pressing the Send key or in the case of UCx the Call or #. For those that don’t press Call or # I shorten the Auto Dial Timer to 2 seconds or less.

The Nortel Dialplan Pattern doesn’t apply to non nortel phones or devices.
Many phones have a digit map for dialing, but then you must figure out their requirements and quirks. Using no station dialplan patterns, the OB Rt and TRK can handle the dialing objectives simplifying the configuration.

To each his own.
