Hey I know there was a post about this new system a few weeks back. I was just wondering if any of you guys got a chance to get your hands on one yet? I'd like to get a little feed back on it before I go and buy one. I know from what I've read on line this thing is pretty sweet, and if I can start to offer this as another alternative besides the IPO that would be great. I'm just still not that fond of the IPO's yet even after having to install a handful of them. I'm a Nortel guy at heart and if this system can keep them going in the future then I'm all about it...

I e mailed them to get some technical information and they call me back to get me to be a dealer in my area and could not answer my simple questions, they let the sale wounds loose on me not a good move on my part.

Hi everyone. Sorry to hear you didnt have a good experience Ironhorse. They helped me out quite a bit, so I would give them a try again. These are a group of ex Nortel guys who are trying to keep the Meridian/BCM product line alive and offer an alternative to the IPO. Personally I've found IPO difficult to work with and I am quite dissapointed they removed many of the familiar Nortel feature codes, etc. BCM was a great product and shouldn't have been canned. This UCx product takes over from where Avaya left off. The guys I talked to at Emetrotel are open to suggestions on features as well. I am going to purchase a system sometime soon and hope to use it in my lab and see how it works.

Hi Ironhorse (and everybody else)! I am sorry you didn't get answers you were looking for. What specifically did you want to know?

When I go to their site I see the unit and literature on the Nortel phones that will work with the system, my question is how do you connect these phones I get the feeling you would need more equipment, There is no pdf's on installation of the equipment or configuration.

Is there a on line video to demonstrated the installation procedure for the Nortel phones?

To connect IP phones, the UCx50 system has a Gigabit Ethernet port (dual ports on UCx1000). To connect Nortel digital phones, you must use E-MetroTel's UCx Digital Gateway. The gateway is connected also over Ethernet. You can find some product info here:

The UCx Digital Gateway is based on the BCM50 hardware. SSD with E-MetroTel's software is used in it instead of the BCM hard disk. With 12 digital set ports on the main unit and two DSM32 expansion modules, the gateway can support up to 76 digital sets (50 concurrent calls). You can connect multiple gateways to one UCx system. Gateways can be connected remotely (Nortel IP phones, too).

Installation instructions are on the Wiki that Cartman found. The UCx manual is outdated - the word is that they will provide a new version soon.

If I bought a BCM 50 no keycodes would I need key codes to expand the DSM 32 is there availability for analog ports on the main unit, analog lines.

If you have your own BCM50, you can purchase just the UCx Digital Gateway SSD drive (comes with 10 licenses) and additinal extension licenses up to the count that you need.
All BCM50 hardware versions are supported. You don't need any BCM50 keycodes from Nortel/Avaya.

Sorry - I missed the second question. The 4 analog station ports on BCM50 are supported as extensions. Analog trunks are not supported.

UCXGuy,

Will Trunk MBMs be supported at any stage ?
Looking through the docs it only mentions mediatrix BRI gateways. Will any SIP-ISDN gateway work for PRI support ?

As far as I know, E-MetroTel's approach is provide migration path for Nortel phones only. Any SIP gateway should work with the system. You can purchase analog/ISDN gateways from E-MetroTel - they carry the Mediatrix brand.
