I received a Delivery Status Notification (Delay) last week. I have been trying to research where the problem lies, but have had no luck so I am turning to you good people for help. For some reason, I cannot send e-mail to anyone from this specific domain without it returning this message. I have not installed any programs or changed any settings that will disallow e-mail to go through, although I can receive mail from them with no issues.

All other e-mail works flawless, except for this one domain. I've checked my spam filters to make sure they didn't get added to any blacklist or exclusion lists. I have added them to all whitelists and IMF exceptions I could find.

I can send them e-mails from other accounts (such as my yahoo with no issues) and their IT department says that everything on their side is good and there should be no problem.

I am at a loss as to why I cannot send them mail. Any help is appreciated. TIA!

Can you post the NDR you get back, this will help diagnose the problem.

Yes I have reverse DNS setup and there hasn't been any changes made to any settings that would affect Exchange communication. Everything was working great and then one day it just stopped sending to that particular domain.

From the server, do an NSLOOKUP for the domain and get the MX record. Then telnet to the IP of the MX record and see if you can send a test message.

I did an NSLOOKUP for the domain and tried to telnet to both IP and Nameserver. It doesn't connect to either of them.

Were you trying over port 25? Trying to connect to the nameservers doesn't solve anything. Try connecting to the IP address listed for the MX record, using port 25.

Ok, one of the other admins was working on something which was why my telnet did not properly work earlier.

I sent the message through telnet again and the person did receive it.

Have you tried setting up a smart host for that domain to see if the mail is still delayed? It's possible that they have an over aggressive spam filter.

I don't think it would be their spam filter. They received the messages I send through TELNET, but anything else sent through Outlook, etc gets delayed.

What's the host name that's being presented in your SMTP connector? Make sure that's publicly available.

It could very well be a spam filter.

Are you referring to the hostname on the Address tab?

I managed to get the information you wanted. Here are the tabs of the SMTP connector:

Let me know if anything looks out of place. Thanks for everyone's help on this too!

It's listed as sharperimpressionspainting.com

Selecting the DNS button says it is valid.

Anything ideas on what could be causing this? Everything I have checked seems alright.
