I can not get the smtp to connect correctly. I am typing in the details in start->control panel->Ip office vm pro.

I have the e-mail correctly typed in manager with alert selected.

The server vm pro is on is an exchange server. I am loging on with an account that is an administrator. I am able to send e-mail from outlook with that account/e-mail addres

Does anyone know how to set this up correctly or what i settings i should check?

Thanks

Check the following :
In Control Panel, Internet Settings, Software : make outlook the default e-mail client.
In Control panel, IP Office Voicemail Pro : enter a valid e-mail addres in the MAPI screen, enter all necessery data in the SMTP screen with the same e-mail address as in the previous screen.
In VM Pro, preferenses : check if SMTP is selected as the e-mail connector.
Check that you can send mail via SMTP with a telnet session, sending e-mail with outlook is no guarantee that SMTP works.

I have checked the first three and they all check out. I am not sure how to send mail from telnet.

The exact error i get is in the control panel, ip office vm pro when I go to check i get "Failed to login to the mail server (SMTP) using the specified authentication method, error 0 [0].

In that option should i be puting the @..... or just the name of the profile/e-mail account?

At on point i had it working, but now that the client actually needs it, it doesn't.

I appreciate the help

Search on the Microsoft website for exchange smtp then you will find instructions how to use telnet to test smtp.

So i ran the test and it sent an e-mail to me, so that is not the problem, but i still can not get the test to run successfully or an e-mail alert to be sent. Where do i go from here?

Not sure why this happens but on windows 2000 and 2003 server machines running mapi outlook I get a similar error so its worth a try worth a try … on windows 2000 and 2003 server machines..

Reinstall the VM pro as a service not in console mode after that, in services select the VM Pro service right click and select properties go to the logon tab and select this account, enter in the account details that you logon the server with, then stop and start the service, and now try an e-mail alert…

We got it working, insteading of typing the name of the server/mail server we just used localhost and did not have it authenticate. Worked like a charm. Who would have thought!
