E-mail address shows as Name on From field

I have a question:

On Outlook, when I send an e-mail, on From field shows: John Doe mail to: johndoe@doe.com. But on Lotus Notes if I sent an e-mail to an e-mail address it will show: "john.doe@doe.com" <john.doe@doe.com>

How can I change so my name can be displayed on an e-mail?

Is this happening on emails you're sending externally, internally, or both?

For external email this might be normal. I have seen that unless I have someone in my address book / contact list, it doesn't show their name when they send me an email. However, if I add them to my address book, the next time they send me an email, it shows their name also.
