I have recently installed Exchange (bundled with NT / small business server, version 4.5)on our server, which serves four client P.C's running WIN98 and Outlook.

Problem is, we recieve E-mails from our ISP no problem - i.e., E-mail is directed to recipients mailboxes as it should. However, outbound E-mails, from ANY client PC are sent back before leaving our LAN. The error message sent to the admins mailbox shows an E-mail address in the header nothing like the one typed in the "TO" box of Outlook. For example if I type: duncangrant@hotmail.com to send an E-mail to my private address, I get the following error message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: testing testing testing
Sent: 10/2/00 4:33 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

IMCEASMTP-duncangrant+40hotmail+2Ecom@*, on 10/2/00 4:33 PM
The recipient name is not recognized
The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=US;a= ;p=ECOTECHSERVER;l=SERVER-001002153309Z-2

If we use Outlook Express (via the Exchange server, NOT a direct modem connection), we can send out E mails no problem! (from ANY client PC)

What's going on please?

regards,

Duncan Grant
