E-Mail Address Book is Dimmed - Outlook 2003

I have a friend that has this problem and it's driving me nuts.

In Outlook 2003 when she created a New Message and clicks on the To: field, no address book is available to chose from.

Went to the Contact folder and properties and the Outlook Address Book and the option to select "Contacts" (check box) is dimmed out.

Tried the Tools, E-mail accounts, View or Change existing directories or address books and Outlook Address Book is shown as Type MAPI.

These are about all the fixes I could find in the MS KB and none solved the problem.

Any suggestions?

This is a stand alone computer and this function did work, but someplace along the way it went bump in the night.
