I have a Redhat 8.0 Webserver, behind a US Robotics Broadband Router. I got a domain name from DynDns.org.
My ISP doesn't allow static IP's, so every 40 days my IP changes. So what I needed was DDClient, to check my WAN's Dynamic IP, on my Broadband Router, and change it at DynDns.org.

Everything's fine so far, but I only found manuals for configuring DDClient for systems directly connected to internet, so systems that don't use broadband routers.

Configuring DDClient for networks with broadband routers has to be possible, but first of all my type of Router isn't mentioned in the example config file, so I used settings for SMC Broadband Routers. This HAS to work. My router -I heard- is a clone of some SMC broadband router.

Now, the example config file is a bit messy, so I can't figure it all out...

Can anyone help me out here, by giving me an example config file, that should match my system configuration?

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I tried the Update URL, and it updates my IP.
But I want a program or script that checks my IP every hour and updates IP-changes at DynDns.org. In the URL, I have to set the new IP manually, and this is not what I want.

DDClient check the IP every now and then, and automatically updates it at DynDns.org. This is what I need. I don't want to have to check if my IP has changed. It has to be done automatically.

So I haven't really figured out DDClient, so I still need some help there. Thanks.

I've been doing a similar thing myself and really struggled with several of the clients. The configuration files are a nightmare and most dont help much in the documentation.

my setup is a little different since my Mandrake box is also the router/firewall/gateway to my adsl connection (which isnt live yet so I'm having to use dialup)
The solution I found the easiest is addns.pl it doesnt do the updates if the address hasn't changed which I found a problem with some clients. It was also easy enough for a newbie like me to get up and running

You don't have to specify the IP in the URL. If there is none present, it will use the IP from which you are connecting (which should be your router's public IP). I use this for several domains already, and it works flawlessly.
