I was attempting to update our GP 9 to SP4 this morning. My quandary is I
don't have the GP app installed on the SQL Server. I had it installed on an
admin workstation that has long since died.

Taking advice on another thread I posted, I installed a second client
instance on my new admin workstation. I installed the client and server,
choosing a local SQL Server 2005 Express instance I have on my box. This
allows we to choose to update DYNAMICS, company DB's, etc. when running GP
Utilities in this second client instance.

So, I tried to install SP4. The two local clients on my machine installed
fine. Running the GP Utilities in my second client instance I was able to
choose the local SQL Server 2005 Express ODBC option and update DYNAMICS and
the Fabrikam company DB's. Then I relaunched GP Utilities in my second client
instance and chose the production ODBC option.

The DYNAMICS update worked fine. But when the routine hit the first company
DB I received an error stating "FP:Bad component offset.Form..." The upgrade
routine was hung so I bombed out of GP Utilities. Looking at the
CustomerSource KB I saw that this pertains to the account frameworks not
being synched. So I changed the SYNCHRONIZE line in the dex.ini file in my
second client instance to TRUE. And then I tried the process again. Same
result.

If I run GP Utilities in my primary client instance it's not seen as the
admin workstation. So what the heck do I do? I figure perhaps having to end
task on the upgrade routine the first time likely gummed up the works. In the
interim I rolled back to the DB backups and am back to the pre-SP4 client
version.
