Believe it or not... actually, at this point, I find it quite predictable... We are having a tought time getting a consistent answer on how the pricing works for Payroll, based on number of employees.

That is, is it total employee IDs, Active Employees, W-2 Employees? And what about multiple companies... is it based on total/total/employess?

How about this example: A small restaurant with lots of turnover... no more than 10 employees at any point in time, but 300 over the course of a year. And we might have another 200 from LAST year that didn't work this year, so no W-2, but we don't want to delete them from the system.

So.... how many employees do we have to buy the license for?

well - if you are on GP 9 it is easy --- go to Help-> about and the info is right there (first line is Users second is Employees). This will tell you how many you are licensed for...

I know that we had to inactivate the employees (cards->payroll then hit the inactivate box) and that seemed to do what we needed. when we were in the pinch we would inactivate and re-activate, but that was in v8 so I am not sure that it works that same here...

Got it.... we don't have the software yet, but your trick about active/inactive is the key. Thanks!
