dynamically updating the default values of a parameter

Does anyone know if CR 10 is now able to dynamically update the values derived from a table in a parameter?

I've seen the "official" workaround of having to create and schedule a report that will read a table and export it to a text file. This is not a viable option for me for I have a lot of different parameters that my reports uses.

No! And they still act like it's some incredibly difficult thing to code...

One of my biggest peaves, something so incredibly simple and commonly requested and they offer up that lame hack as a solution...

Maybe BO has heard of dynamic parameters and will code it in CR 11.

There are 3rd party solutions, specifically for Crystal Enterprise, but not for Crystal Reports.

If all goes well, by the end of the year I should have a Report Viewer app out that reads the Browse Table and Browse Field (from the default parameters window) that will update dynamically. I've been dragging my feet working on it, because I keep hoping that BO will finally get around to it themselves.

There are a few out there now, Ido has a viewer with hierarchial parameters, which is purdy slick.

There are also several designed for CE, the above was the only one I remembered.

If you already have a viewer created, a SELECT DISTINCT FIELD from TABLE seems pretty straightforward to incorporate.

Let's see it! ;)

k,

Believe me, you'll get to see it when I'm ready for outside testing, but if I were to show you now, I'd have to kill you... ;)

Ido's viewer(s) is/are very slick, indeed. But I think with Ido's stuff, the user has to define a report that returns the potential parameters. I'm trying to avoid the setup part for the end user by reading the table and field they used to get the parameter values in the first place. Delphi is the only development environment in which those properties are exposed.

The parameters won't be cascading, like Mr. Millet's, but they will be dynamic.

Dear Dave and SV,

I heard that CR 11 will have dynamic parameters. I can't wait!
