dynamic tool tip... 1

...Ok, I got my dynamic tool tip to work, now what I want it to do is make it grow to fit the amout of text I send it in a variable, I have a feeling I need to get the length of the text string and set the tool tip accordingly.

Any ideas appreciated. Regards

Guess you gave yourself your own answer!
IMHO, a tool tip can't be that long after all, and since your probably using a mc, just expand the xscale according to the string's lenght.

You can't dynamically alter the size of a textbox but you could work around it.

Make the textbox long enough to accept the longest string you're going to pass to it - its bounding area is invisible in the movie anyway so nobody's going to know.

Read the string length programatically and then resize the background graphic (I assume it's just a plain filled rectangle) that the text sits on.

The overall effect would be of a text area which resizes to fit even though there's a bit of cheating going on behind the scenes.
