Hey Guys, I have a form that lists data, and I want the user to be able to select some nuber of these items, hit a button and see a report that has a graph for each one selected. The graph format would be the same for all of them but the data behind the graphs would represent the previous form selections. The form part is already done but whats the best way to go about the report angle?

How are you selecting the data? Is this from a multi-select list box?

Charts/graphs are similar to subreports as the have Link Master/Child properties. This allows you to create a report based on your selected data and add a graph that is filtered to a field value from the report. Subreports have Record Sources while graphs have Row Sources.

Ok Ive set up a report to try the stuff out with and I see how to link the fields I think, Im concerned now that the chart is set up right, have you messed with them much? Basically when I insert the chart it comes up with what seems like a example with some kind of test data, whats the best way to swith these fields to what I need? I see theres some kind of datasheet that seems to drive it, do I edit this somehow, and if so do I include key values etc. or how should I proceed?

Thanks For The Help!

I always create my charts on a form. Set the chart control properties:
Locked: NO
Enabled: Yes
This allows you to double-click the chart while in Form View. You can then edit almost everything in the chart and your data and display will be updated.
The Row Source allows you to determine the data. This is modified while in the form design (not chart design).

When you get the chart how you want it, copy and paste it into a report.

Ok I have the chart working perfectly by doing what you said, the problem is when I try to do the same thing in the original database it doesnt seem to want to use the chart object in design mode, the button for it is greyed and when I try running the one I cut and paste it spits out all kinds of ole errors, any idea why it wouldnt be showing up? DO I have to register it some weird way or something? Its a data project if that makes a difference.

I don't have experience with charts in ADPs. Did you make sure you set the locked to No and enabled to Yes? Beyond that, I can't help much.

If you don't find a good answer here, you might want to try the MS Public News Groups. Many more MVPs hang out there plus a few others that are good with both ADPs and Graphs.
