Hi,

what would be the best way to build reports dynamically using the Report Designer Component ? Im using VB6, Crystal Report 8.5 and a Access 2000 database.

Just before constructing the report, a form appear and the user can check the sections he wants. Some data are in subreports.

Should i hide the sections(or fields) that are not checked and move everything in there correct position at runtime ? Can I do that and is it hard to do ? Im kinda lost...

Anyone knows a tutorial that does something like that ? Any advice ?

Thanks,
Frank

I am not an expert and I only use crystal a little. But one of the features about the reports that I create is that the user can decided their own grouping levels. I do this by creating parameters and setting default values. I then create a formula which is just a set of if-then-else statements that take the default values that I set up for the parameter and assign fields from the DB to it. Then insert a group and have it group on the formula. You may want to set more grouping levels then the user is going to want so in that case use None as a default value in the parameter and if that is chosen then have those groups surpressed when the parameter is set to None. I hope this helps. I can clarify if you need it.
