The data dictionary can be devided into two catagories:
1. Data dictionary tables
2. dynamic performance tables

Are all tables started with "V$" dynamic performance tables?
such as
V$BACKUP
?V$DATAFILE
?V$TEMPFILE
?V$TABLESPACE

Any other tables that belong to dynamic performance views ?

Pissallio,

Virtually, you are correct, but technically, there is a "parallel universe" of dynamic performance views that are "GV$..." views. For almost every "V$" view, there is also a "GV$" view which contains the same columnar information as the "V$" views, but has one additional column, "INST_ID", which discloses which instance the information comes from in a multi-instance Real Application Cluster (RAC) environment.

Also, it is interesting to note that several of the dynamic performance views are queriable before you actually open the database (i.e., when the database is in MOUNT state). They are available because the information they contain is "Virtual (V$)" and not stored on the actual database. Interesting, huh?

Hope this helps,
