dynamic link subreport

hello, I posted in another forum (thread707-1502623) but a member suggested I post here.

I have a master report that i want to link a subReport to. However, both the reports RecordSource is set progamically in the Report_Open event. The Recordsource is set to a dynamic query returned from a sql server back end (.adp 2007 front end). Both the reports have a grouping expression on [chrDriverName] and I put this same field name in both the Link Child and Master fields of the subreports properties. This does not work.

Is it possible to link reports that are not based on tables or queries already saved in the DB?
