how can I create a self signed certificate using my external dynamic dns name? At present I can only create one using the internal dns name of my server? Thanks

You can't. You can only create certificates for domains you have control of. That by design. If you could create certs for any domain, what would the benefit of a cert be?

A certificate helps validate WHO YOU ARE as well as securing the connection.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Well I have managed to do it by creating a domain the same as my dyndns account and created a self signed certificate which I was able to use on my alreday existing internal domain for what I wanted.
