is there a way to make the text that appears on a button graphic change dynamically per user?

i have an asp page which has content depending on the user...

i have been using "text" buttons because the one of the "buttons" is different on each user (a database field) (as well as the links off those buttons)

i was trying to find a way to make the text on the graphic = the recordset field but have been unable to make it work

does anyone know of a way to do this?
