There are many books on the subject. Most important is to remember that this is an iterative process, not a waterfall or big bang development effort. I recommend "Data Warehouse Project Management" by Adelman and Moss. Also might consider "Building the Data Warehouse" 3rd Edition by Bill Inmon and/or "The Data Warehouse Toolkit" 2nd Edition by Ralph Kimball. Kimball and Inmon are the two foremost authorities on the subject of data warehousing.
johnherman is right. Data Warehouse design is different from software design. There are several approaches on data warehouse design methodology. Even some RDBMS vendos have their own but the most popular being used are Bill Inmon's and Ralph Kimball's.
