DVD's play too fast within Windows Media Player

DVDs play just fine whem I use WinDVD 6 or Cyberlink PowerDVD 6 but when I try using windows Media Player 10 to play them, they play slightly fast. I mean that the audio and video plays about 1.5X normal speed. I can still distinguish speech however it is slightly fast and skips once every few seconds. It's kind of hard to tell if the video is playing fast too but I believe that it is since the audio and video seem to be in sync with each other.



1) I tried setting the WMP options to Analog Audio

2) I have the correct audio cable connected directly from the optical drive to my sound card.

3) I have unchecked the "Enable Digital Cd Audio for this CD-ROM device". under the device properties in Device Manager

4) I have updated to the latest Sound Blaster drivers

5) I have installed the latest Bios for the Pioneer A108 Drive that I am using

6) I am using WinXP SP1


Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening? Any ideas??

HI there,
-I have checked the enhancements and play speed is set to 1.0
-I have Updated To WINXP SP2 and the problem has not gone away
- I was able in the past to play DVD"s as long as I used WinDVD or PowerDVD but to be honest with you I don't remember if they played properly on Media Player. I seem to remember that they did although I can't be sure.
- I have also played around with the hardware accelration settings within WMP for the optical drive in question

- I have not tried VOB"s, VCD's or trying a different comp with MP10 on them yest but I will do so and post back Thanks!

One of our users plays an audio CD daily on an older Compaq PC running XP Pro SP2 and the cd skips when playing on a regular basis.

I have seen some posts in other sites where wmplayer is an inferior product since it causes audible skips and repeats. A suggestion was made to change the default back to cdplayer which would require the use of the audio cable, however, I could not find any information on how to do this.

Can anyone help?

last I checked, as long as you use Windows XP, an audio cable is not required.

Since XP by default streams over IDE.

Yes I also read that audio cables aren't needed in XP, but XP does not stream well over ide either.

You could try an earlier version of Media Player - Start > Run > type mplayer2 > Click ok

This will open version 6 WMP. See if the audio playback is any better.

Also try cleaning the CD Players Laser using a special cleaning CD.
