I just installed a NEC 2500A DVD-RW drive. It plays DVD movies just fine. If I insert a blank DVD+RW disc Windows and all programs change the drive recognition from DVD RW Drive to CD Drive. Clicking on the drive in Explorer pops the error message "Operation Failed".

Thoughts please.

You said it is a DVD-RW. If so, it does not support writing to DVD+RW. You would need a dual format burner to handle both DVD-RW and DVD+RW.

That was an error on my part. The NEC is actually a DVD+-RW drive.

1) Does the same thing occur if you first open your burning software before inserting a blank +RW disc?

2) Have you tried right-clicking the DVD+RW drive in My Computer, go to Properties -> Recording, and making sure the option "Enable CD Recording..." is unchecked?

3) Have you tried visiting NEC's website to obtain the latest firmware revision for your drive?
