Having immense trouble with a new build. It seems that others are having similar trouble, but no two accounts are quite the same.
New Gigabyte-P965-DS4 motherboard (for a Core2Duo) with 2xSATA2 RAID-0 HDD. Used a P-ATA DVD-RW in the board's one P-ATA IDE slot, which allowed installation of OS (WinXP Pro) and various other bits, along with all the other functions. However, when I try to play any media directly from DVD, no app on earth seems to handle it. Nero, WMP, you name it - most can't read at all, while WMP plays at half-speed with no sound.
The motherboard uses the ICH8 chipset which, I believe, has no native P-ATA support - it sort of "cobbles together" a couple of SATA connections into one PATA, and you can select which it does at BIOS. Following some advice I tried a SATA DVD-RW to get around the problem, but that had no effect. I've mucked around in the BIOS for ages, but to no avail.
There have been no BIOS or chipset driver updates issued for ages, and I'm stumped. No other problems with this build to speak of. Is anyone able to shed some light on how I can solve this?
