My dvd rom has been acting up lately by sometimes trying to read a disc nonstop. It works sometimes and am trying to figure out what is wrong. Today I added my brothers cdr writer into my computer as I am going away tonight and will need it for the weekend. Well he left for work and I'm stuck with a problem. Neither the dvdrom or cd writer are working. The computer doesnt see the dvd rom anymore and wont install the cdwriter due to a problem that it wont specify. PLEASE HELP IMMEDIATELY. I checked to make sure everything is plugged in properly and it is. Is this a simply problem? Is it somehow related to the problems I've been having with my dvdrom? Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the 2 drives attached to the same cable? If so, have you set the jumpers correctly on the back of the drives - one should be master, the other should be slave.

Yes, I have the DVD ROM as master and cd writer as slave

Verify in the BIOS that the machine is reading the master/slave set up properly. Go into the device manager and remove the drives and any drivers/software (such as Nero, Easy CD) etc,. Do a fresh install. I like to remove the cable, leave it off for a few minutes, and plug it back in. I would install the DVD first, make sure it's working properly, then install the CDR.

You didn't specify the OS you are using, but make sure that you have the proper, updated drivers for both drives.
