I have a laptop with a dvd player on it that I am having trouble with. After inserting a dvd, it starts up the DVD Player, but then gives me an error message saying:

There is a problem starting your dvd player. Please try the following solutions.

1. Change display to lower resolution, color depth, etc.
2. Close any application that might be using video playback.
3. Make sure the sound card is working properly.

I have changed the display to 800x600 with 16bit colors. Closed all applications and killed pretty much all processes running. The sound card works as I can play sounds and cd's with music on it. Anyone have any ideas on what I can try to get this thing to play dvd's?

Did the DVD come with the laptop or did you install it? What I'm angling at is, is the right dvd decoder card installed?

Tired of waiting for an answer? Try asking better questions. See: faq222-2244

What DVD player are you using? Power DVD??? WinDVD??? Which one, and have you tried other players to see if the problem??

Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

The dvd player itself came installed from Dell this way, and has worked fine for years. The laptop itself is a Dell Inspiron 7500 old school pc with Win98 SE on it. The dvd player software being used is, well, called DVD Player. The readme file says its Ravisent Technologies Inc., Software Cinemaster 99v1.0. I'm sure there are bigger and better programs to use now, so if there are any you know of that you might recommend, let me know and maybe I can try that.

I Would serioulsy Recommend updating the DVD player.

I personally use Cyberlink's Power DVD. It's one of the better players out there. I use it on my laptop and have never had any problems playing DVD's with it.

BTW this is trhe only thing i could find relating to your Player:
I'm Guessing Cineplayer is the newer version of Cinemaster. There should be an upgrade.
