I think I made a big mistake. I bought a HP laptop and asked for DVD capability. When I went to put a CD in the drawer, it wouldn't fit on the spindle. That's when I realized their not compatible. Can I take out the DVD drawer and card and have it replaced with a CD reader and card? ... or is it more complicated than that? Any idea of cost? Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand your question. A DVD-ROM drive can play both DVD's and CD's. Also, DVD's and CD's are the same size. It wouldn't make sense that a DVD could fit, but not a CD. Make sure you are looking at the correct device.

You might want to consider the terminology that you're using to describe your problem. The "drawer" that you speak of is probably the "drive", and the "spindle" is probably the "tray" which holds the disc.

are you sure the cd wont fit on the "spindle?" and by spindle, i'm guessing you're talking about the little circular doodad with three notches that sorta buldge a little? have you tried putting a dvd in there? cuz if your dvd fits, your cd should fit..cuz..the holes at the centers of both discs should be the same size.. right?
