DVD/CD keeps asking for disk

Recently installed a combo DVD/CD-RW. Windows XP recognizes it ... it shows up along with other devices when I open "My Computer". However, when I open the drawer and insert a DVD recordable disk, I get a message "Please insert a disk in drive D. Why isn't a valid disk being recognized? Thank you.

Make sure all cables are securely connected.
If they're ok, then install the drive in another system. If the same problem happens, then it's bad.
