Do I need a special DVD Drive to burn onto dual layer DVDS that are bigger than 4.7GB?

Yeah, you need a DVDRW drive that supports dual layer. Almost any made today will do that.

You didn't specify whether it's for a laptop or desktop, or what type of connection. Make sure you pick the correct connection (IDE vs SATA) or slimline for laptop... just make sure it's compatible with your laptop if that's the case.

If your computer is a laptop, you may be best off looking on eBay for the correct drive.

Or if you can't find that, then you'd need to look for an external DVD burner.

I have a DVD burner on my desktop & was just wondering if it could do this or if I needed a 'special' one.

What is the best way for me to check if my DVD burner is capable of dual layer burning?

It usually says DVD-DL somewhere on it.

Or, cross-reference (google) the model number.

Yes, it will normally be labeled with "DL" on the front somewhere. The one I'm looking at right now says "RW" in big letters and right below that it says "DVD+RW DL".

Also if you know for a fact that the drive is less than 3 years old, then there's a 99% chance it supports dual-layer.
