Can anyone recommend a video capture device that will allow me to receive audio and video from an external Television / cable box / digital video camera, etc., that I can use to capture real, quality video, that can then be recorded to a DVD burner?

As a second part of this question... Does SuSE Linux, or any specific Linux application, support DVD burning, of DVD video, that can then be re-played on a standard home DVD video player?

And, is there any Linux-based application / computer-based DVD recorder / DVD re-writer capable of producing DVDs with the same resolution and quality of store-bought DVDs?

Thanks in advance, and have a great holiday weekend...

jxfish2,

Check out Myth TV at and do a search for Freevo.

I think they have some preliminary support for DVD burners, but it's very specific.

As far as the distro is concerned, there are instructions for RedHat and Mandrake mostly, but also stuff in there for Debain and Gentoo (which I'm trying to set up now).

My problem is lack of coherent support for the Hauppage WinTV PVR-250. I'm working on it though. Takes like three days to get a good Gentoo box up and running with KDE!
