DVD Burner recommendations

Any recommendations on a good external DVD writer? How about software to run it?

LaCie or Freecom are, IMHO, the best for external devices. They usually come with software, e.g. LaCie comes with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6.2, LaCie DVD Utilities. Freecom have a PDF here -

I quite like the LG and HP DVD writers and only use K3B to burn
K3B is almost like Nero on Windows.

I have a Memorex 8x DVD R/RW. It seems to work fine with K3b, gcombust, X-CDRoast, growifs, etc.
